Students at the Marxe School can join professional organizations, earn certifications, and apply for funding to attend conferences on public policy and education research. It’s a great way to meet people from other universities, learn from experts, and see real-world policy and research in action.
The AAPOR is the leading professional organization of public opinion and survey research professionals in the U.S., with members from academia, media, government, the nonprofit sector, and private industry.
AAPOR offers students discounted memberships. Membership includes a one-year subscription to Public Opinion Quarterly, all AAPOR mailings, and full access to AAPORnet, a member-only listserv. Renewals for students are $25/calendar year. Students also save on AAPOR’s annual conference registration fees.

AAPOR Student Travel Award
AAPOR offers student travel awards to those in need of financial support so that they may attend the annual conference and experience this important educational and collegial event.

Topics must be related to the study of multi-national/multi-cultural/multi-lingual survey research (e.g., 3M survey research), or to the theory and methods of 3M survey research, including statistics and statistical techniques used in such research.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is a national research society that strives to advance knowledge about education, encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.
AERA offers two types of student memberships:
Members (Voting) Graduate Student Members: Any graduate student may be granted graduate student member status with the endorsement of a voting member who is a faculty member at the student’s university. Graduate students who are employed full-time are not eligible.
Affiliates (Non-Voting) Student Affiliates: Any student may be granted student affiliate status with the endorsement of a voting member who is a faculty member at the student’s university. Students who are employed full-time are not eligible.

The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) is dedicated to improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis, and education.
APPAM’s student membership option is available to students enrolled in a policy related program at an institution of higher education. Membership ensures exposure to the cutting edge of policy analysis and management issues that affect all policy professionals. The Marxe School offers 20 free memberships to APPAM per year to both undergraduate and graduate students. Memberships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students can only receive a free membership once and are not eligible for free renewal.

The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) is the largest and most prominent professional association for public administration. It is dedicated to advancing the art, science, teaching and practice of public and non-profit administration. ASPA’s four core values are Accountability and Performance, Professionalism, Ethics and Social Equity.
Each year, ASPA’s Section for Women in Public Administration (SWPA) awards up to three $500.00 scholarships to students at the PhD or master’s level or a practitioner to help defray the costs associated with attending the ASPA Annual Conference.
