What is the NextGen Fellows Program?
The NextGen Fellows Program is a two-year program for rising juniors at Baruch College—regardless of major—that supports and prepares those interested in public service and leadership careers.

The Baruch NextGen Fellows Program is Baruch College’s local chapter of the national Volcker Alliance “NextGen Service Corps” network, which introduces undergraduates from across disciplines to public-service values and practical leadership skills.

    How it Works
The Baruch NextGen Fellows Program offers a variety of opportunities—academic programs, public‑service‑focused events, field trips, summer activities, and more. Students who complete the two‑year study program and a set of co‑curricular experiences earn a NextGen Leadership credential certifying they’ve completed the program.

    Academic Programs
The Baruch NextGen Fellows Program’s curricular track offers three pathways:

    • Minor in Public Service (Zicklin & Weissman students)
    • Major in Public Affairs (Marxe students)
    • Concentration in Public Affairs (Zicklin students)

Each pathway is anchored by the foundational course PAF 3006: Public Service and Why It Matters.

    Co-Curricular Experiences
Participants access a wide variety of experiences: events and conferences focused on government and public service; professional development workshops; site visits to public agencies; and public service events, leadership weekends, and volunteer work. They also work with the Marxe Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives & Outreach to build the Baruch NextGen cohort, leveraging our NYC context and multi‑school reach (Weissman, Zicklin & Marxe).

    The Volcker Alliance
The Volcker Alliance is a nonprofit founded by former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Paul A. Volcker, dedicated to advancing his vision for an empowered public-sector workforce.

    Benefits
No matter your major, the NextGen Fellows Program gives you leadership credentials and real-world experience you can’t get in the classroom alone.
