Scholarship Application for Continuing Marxe Students is Currently CLOSED.

General Information

The application for continuing Marxe students (those who have completed one semester or more) is currently closed. There are no scholarships for the summer/winter terms. Should any other scholarship opportunities arise during this academic year, we will inform you right away.  Please continue to check your Baruch email address where we will email you to inform you if this is the case and will post information on this page.

The application for the next academic year 2025-2026 (Fall 2025-Spring 2026) is expected to be announced in early July 2025.

Our scholarship awarding process is highly competitive and submitting an application and meeting the eligibility requirements do not guarantee an award.

Typically, there is one application for consideration for all available scholarships.

The general eligibility requirements for our scholarships are:

• be a Marxe student (undergraduate or graduate) AND
• be registered for at least 6 credits for the award semester AND
• have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher as specified in a scholarship description AND
• have completed at least 3 credits (with a final grade) at the time of application AND
• meet specific stipulations of the scholarship(s)

All scholarship applications must include an unofficial transcript, and a resumé.

OPTIONAL: a typewritten statement up to 600 words describing the educational and career goals; relevant passions; and financial need (if applicable).

In the past, students who were awarded a scholarship were informed on or by beginning of the semester.  Students are generally advised to pay their tuition in full first and if they are awarded a scholarship, they are reimbursed the award amount later in the semester.

Scholarships Awarded to Continuing Students in the Past

Alice Herman and Arthur Rubinstein Scholarship (MPA only) To provide scholarships to MPA students who demonstrate either financial need or academic excellence. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Carol Ruth Wachter Memorial Scholarship (Executive MPA only) For an EMPA student working in NYC government who shows promise in public service. Min 3.2 Cumulative GPA required.

Clark Foundation Student Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) Full and partial tuition scholarships for Graduate students in the Marxe School. Recipients will be chosen on a merit basis. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Consolidated Edison MPA Scholarship (Executive MPA only) The Consolidated Edison MPA Fellowship, established in 2006, allows nonprofit executives who would otherwise not have the financial resources to pursue advanced training to seek a master`s degree in public affairs in Baruch College`s Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, better preparing them for management leadership in the field and to help address a growing shortage of nonprofit executives with advanced training. To be eligible the student must have 1-demonstrated financial need and 2-high academic potential. Preference will be given to minority students. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Donald E. Farley Scholarship (MPA only) For in-state outstanding graduate students majoring in Public Administration for academic excellence, service to Baruch College, and contributions to his or her community, borough, or the city at large. Established in honor of Senior Vice Chancellor Farley for his long and outstanding service to The City University of New York. Min 3.2 Cumulative GPA required.

Elinor and Paul Goodstat Scholarship (BSPA only) To provide a scholarship or scholarships to incoming freshmen or currently matriculated students in the Marxe School who demonstrate academic promise, a strong work ethic and financial need. The scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA and continues to demonstrate financial need. Min 3.0 Cumulative GPA required.

Hagedorn Challenge Scholarship (BSPA only) Need based scholarship for BSPA students in the Marxe School; Available for students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are otherwise ineligible for other forms of federal or state aid. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Hagedorn Graduate Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) Scholarships for graduate students in the Marxe School; Available for students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are otherwise ineligible for other forms of federal or state aid. Min 3.0 Cumulative GPA required.

Hagedorn Scholarship Endowment (All Marxe graduate programs) Scholarships for graduate students in the Marxe School; Available for students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are otherwise ineligible for other forms of federal or state aid. Min 3.0 Cumulative GPA required.

Janet Dewart Bell Scholarship (Executive MPA only) To provide scholarships for Marxe students (preference for Executive MPA, if no candidate found then MPA or BSPA) who demonstrate financial need. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Jay and Rita Berman Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) To provide scholarships to students who are residents of Brooklyn. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

LCU Fund Scholarship (All Marxe degree programs) Created to provide housing stipends for women enrolled at the Marxe. The foundation invests in the future of women pursuing careers that serve the community by easing the financial burden of NYC housing. As a full-time student, one must: Be enrolled in a graduate, undergraduate or program in the arts, education, social work, public administration, religious leadership, criminal justice or health care at a grantee institution at the time of application for an award; and Earn less than $30,000 a year and have no, or very limited, assistance from family or other outside sources; and Possess a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or provide a portfolio or other evidence of academic or programmatic success; and Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career that serves the community. In addition to the requirements above, a part -time student must: Complete 9 credits (or the equivalent of three courses) of core/required classes; and Supply evidence of internship, part-time or full-time employment.

Lewis Friedman Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) An annual scholarship for a graduate student in the Marxe School who has shown promise and innovation in the areas of public finance or government budgeting. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Mark I Kalish Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) For the Marxe School student intending to enter the not-for-profit sector. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Martin Begun Scholarship (BSPA only) To provide two annual scholarships for students enrolled in the BSPA program who have a minimum GPA of 3.5. The recipients shall be known as Martin Begun Scholars. The recipients shall write an essay about some aspect of Martin Begun’s civic or governmental activities utilizing the archival material available in the Newman Library. Min 3.2 Cumulative GPA required.

Marxe IMPACT Scholars (All Marxe graduate programs) Scholarships for current graduate students with the highest GPAs. The highest Cumulative GPA required.

Marxe International Scholar Scholarship (All Marxe graduate programs) Scholarship for continuing international students studying on a visa, with at least 3.4 Cumulative GPA.

Stephen J Jerome Fellows (MSEd-HEA only) To provide scholarships to students in the Master of Science in Education in Higher Education Administration Program. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

Susan Ponce De Leon Scholarship (MPA or Executive MPA only) Full-time student; graduate MPA in housing or demonstrate commitment to community development; renewable for a maximum of two years; essay addressing candidate’s commitment to affordable housing and community development. Min 3.4 Cumulative GPA required.

The Marxe School of Public and International Affairs offers a number of awards to incoming students. Along with more traditional scholarship offers, fellowship packages combine scholarship funding, part-time work and a stipend, which covers the total cost of tuition and fees. Scholarship and fellowship award recipients are selected based upon their GPA, strength of application submitted, and program compatibility. Award packages are available only to degree program students. There is no separate application to be considered for awards. All applicants are automatically considered for awards at the time of admission.

Hearst Fellowship in Nonprofit Management
One-year fellowships for new or returning students in the Marxe School preparing for careers in nonprofit management.

Marxe Dean’s Fellow
Awarded to new traditional MPA and MIA students. This is a full tuition scholarship which involves part-time work with the Marxe Dean to develop research skills and pedagogic abilities and collaborate on publications and other professional projects. This package has three components: Fellowship Award; Full Student Scholarship; and Fellowship Stipend.

Marxe Endowed Faculty Fellows
Awarded to new traditional MPA and MIA students. These are full tuition scholarships which involve part-time work with a Marxe Endowed Faculty member to develop research skills and pedagogic abilities, and collaborate on publications and other professional projects. This package has three components: Fellowship Award; Full Student Scholarship; and Fellowship Stipend.

Marxe Excellence Scholarships
Awarded to new traditional MPA and MIA students. These are full tuition scholarships covering 18 credits evenly split in two semesters (9 credits per semester); require 3.5 or higher GPA in prior undergraduate or graduate level degree work; demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service.

Marxe Scholarships
For incoming graduate students demonstrating leadership qualities including commitment to volunteerism and community service, academic excellence, leadership roles, and other demonstrative qualities proving applicants commitment to public service or education.

Mary and Abraham D. Beame Scholarship
For new or returning Marxe graduate students preparing for careers in public service.

Mayor’s Graduate Scholarship Program Award
The MGSP is for full-time City of New York employees, and offers a stipend to study public affairs.

Returning Marxe Students Scholarship

This scholarship is for BSPA, MPA, MIA, or MSEd-HEA students who are currently on leave of absence (one or more semesters without taking courses at Marxe).

Eligibility requirements

1) Must be in good academic standing:

• MPA, MIA, and MSEd-HEA applicants must have minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
• BSPA applicants must have minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA

2) Must apply for RE-ENTRY with the Registrar’s Office AND register for a minimum of three PAF credits to be considered.

Hagedorn Internship Award
Funding is available to Marxe students who participate in an unpaid internship position at a public service nonprofit organization or government agency. Learn more

Marxe Graduate Student Conference Travel Grant
The Marxe School provides some limited funds for graduate students to travel to conferences if they either present their work or otherwise participate in the conference program, for example, as panel participants. Learn more about the application process and apply for the grant.

Marxe Study Away Award
Marxe students can participate in a variety of global opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate to complement their educational experience at Baruch College. Students selected to participate in the exchange or short-term programs may be eligible for Marxe Study Away Award to help offset their study abroad expenses. Learn more
